Easy and effective guides to a great lawn

                                                       Land preparation

last week we looked at the importance and value of a great lawn. This week I will start with land preparation as the first step towards achieving a great lawn.

Yes, land preparation is the first step towards your goal- a lush green turf/ lawn. I will try to be simple as much as possible so that this article will be usable to everybody including the layman without of course leaving out the details. Having said that, tighten your seat belt and lets go..............
1: Remove the top vegetation. Materials you would need include cutlasses, hoes, and rakes. Be sure to rake the lot smooth of vegetation and debris. If the lot is large you could consider using herbicides but I prefer you try to avoid the use of chemicals as much as possible, of course to protect our environment
2: Grading. Grading means to achieve an even topography as much as possible. Remember, landscaping is all about visual effects and creativity. Your lot do not have to be smooth as a table so if you find a portion in the lot that is especially unique due to its slope or elevation you could just work around it. However, if it is sharp slope you can reduce it as much as possible or consider using a retaining wall. Mowing steep slopes can be hard and dangerous. Also do remove all the stone pebbles and solid rocks that might be buried in the soil.
So much for now, next we shall consider soil preparation which is the second step to achieving a great lawn
